Rinderpest, also called "cattle plague," is a devastating disease of cattle that
may be eliminated by 2011. Due to a worldwide vaccination effort, the virus has almost been wiped out much as Smallpox has been for the human population. Though Rinderpest can't be contracted by people, the virus has caused massive die-offs of cattle over the centuries, especially in areas of the world already afflicted with famine and hunger.
